Logline:
A ragtag group of immigrants, searching for a new life in the US, make a dangerous and illegal border crossing, only to find themselves stalked like prey by a sadistic serial killer known only as "The Hunter".
Synopsis:
THE JOURNEY OF A THOUSAND STEPS BEGINS WITH ONE
Down to his last straw and quickly running out of time and options, Marco must make the ultimate sacrifice and leave the world he knows behind to try and start a new life in America. With only the clothes on his back and a few dollars in his pocket, Marco sets out to meet the man who will start him on his journey into the promise land.
Joined by a small group of strangers, Marco meets “The Driver”, the man responsible for leading them across the border and they quickly set out to cross a dangerous and desolate wasteland in search of hope. As they make their way into the desert, an unseen adversary watches their every move, waiting for the opportunity to begin his bloody game of life and death. After being unceremoniously abandoned on the roadside by the unscrupulous driver, the group decides to follow Marco northward into the wasteland, unaware of the dangers that await them.
INTO THE LION’S DEN
Just how dangerous the trip will be is soon revealed as the man known only as “The Hunter” arrives and begins a methodic execution of anything that moves. Able to escape the initial attack, Marco is methodically pursued, shot, and left for dead in the waters of the river that once represented a new life for him.
Marco awakens a short time later on the shores of the river. Injured but alive, Marco's frantic search for help leads him to what looks like a deserted house. He quickly comes to realize the house belongs to The Hunter, who has now taken Claudia, the only other survivor of the attack, as prisoner. A failed rescue attempt by Marco leads to his own capture and torture, but quick thinking, and a bit of luck, soon allows both Marco and Claudia to escape the murderer's lair.
Pursued into the wasteland, the pair separates, each taking the route they think best to escape their pursuer. Unknown to Marco, The Hunter is doggedly tracking Claudia, eventually catching her and beating her savagely. Marco arrives just moments before she is killed and is able to subdue The Hunter and escape with Claudia once again.
FIGHT OR FLIGHT
Marco and the now badly injured Claudia’s trek through the desert soon leads them to a desolate highway and help in the form of a highway patrolman. However, he is quickly disposed of by The Hunter, who now pursues them from afar with the help of a long range rifle. He disables the patrol car by shooting out the tires forcing Marco and Claudia to once again venture into the desert for safety. Relentlessly pursued by The Hunter, the chase climaxes along the banks of the river where it all began. A bloody battle ensues leaving Marco and Claudia bruised, battered and scarred, but ultimately victorious. With the battles over and the dangers of their border crossing behind them, Marco and the girl soon realize their journey has just begun and a brave new world of opportunity lies in front of them.
Project History:
In the middle of 2008 TMI began developing Rio DeSangre and the development has been consistent and rapid. In a matter of months, the cast was chosen; locations in and around Van Horn, Texas were found and all of the production elements necessary to complete the film were acquired.
As a TMI property Rio DeSangre has not been shown to anyone outside of the company until now. Previously, it had been the company’s intent to sell the property to a west coast releasing company that specializes in films for the Latin American market. As a result, we have it within our plan to shoot the film in both Spanish and English.
Due to current economic conditions TMI has been unable to locate the funding for this project, and now anticipate self-funding the project from company revenues sometime in early 2010. It is our hope that this film grant will allow TMI to produce the film sooner rather than later.
